Precautions in Ground Connection of Servo Drive

Precautions:

If there is no isolation between the AC power supply and drives the DC bus (such as transformers), do not connect non-isolated port or non-isolated port signal of the DC bus to the earth which may lead to equipment damage and personal injury. Since the common AC voltage is not for earth and there is a possible high-voltage between DC Bus & earth.

In most servo system, all public places and the earth are connected together at the end of the signal. A variety of ways to connect the earth ground loop can generate streams on different reference points with easily being affected by noise.


In order to maintain a constant command reference voltage, connect signal earth of servo driver to that of controller. It also connects to an external power source which affects the work of controller & servo drive (eg: encoder 5V power supply).


Shield ground is more difficult, there are several ways. Proper grounding of the shield is in its internal circuit reference potential point. This point depends on the noise source and the receivers are simultaneously grounded or floating. To ensure that the shield grounded at the same point so that current does not flow through the ground shield.
